If you want to create columns in a WordPress post there is a free plugin called Ultimate TinyMCE Plugin. This plugin inserts all different buttons and features to use in your WordPress dashboard. Since it is free, to install the plugin, simply search for it in your WordPress dashboard. Once it is installed and activated you can then follow the instructions below to enable the shortcode for columns to be inserted into a WordPress post.
Enable Columns Shortcode
1. Go to the Ultimate TinyMCE link in the WordPress dashboard. Hover over it to see the menu.
2. Click settings.
3. On the Plugin Addons menu click on Misc Options.
4. Go to the Enable Column Shortcodes and tick the box next to use to create magazine-style columns.
See the screenshot below.
How To Add Shortcode To a WordPress Post
See this screenshot showing where to put the shortcode. This exact shortcode is for 3 columns but the rules apply to creating a 2 column layout also.
Shortcode To Make 2 Columns Using Ultimate TinyMCE Plugin
Just say you want to add two columns in a WordPress post? No problem. All you need to do is add a bit of shortcode around the content you want to split.
The shortcode is one_half in square brackets as shown in the screenshot below. Note that the closing / ends the shortcode.
3 Columns in a WordPress Post
Look at the three columns I have created below. All I did was surround each piece of content with one_third in square brackets. For the last third I had to use the one_third_last in square brackets. Again to end the shortcode on the three column I used the /one_third_last.
