If you install new applications and programs frequently or you already have large number of small programs working in the background all the time, there is a pretty good chance that you get balloon tips all the time, interfering with your everyday work and activities.
In addition to these programs, Windows itself frequently wants to “let you know” about something, so instead of turning off notification option in every single program you have, sometimes it’s simpler to turn it off from the Registry base. This solution is a bit extreme but not only it will disable all the notifications from the programs you now have on your computer, but it will also disable notifications from the programs you might install in the future.
Disable Balloon Tips
All you need to do is to open Registry Editor (Start -> regedit) and follow this path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
Now in the right pane, right-click and create new 32-bit DWORD registry key and name it “EnableBalloonTips” and give him value 0 (zero).
After you do that, close registry editor, reset your computer and after that you will not get those annoying balloons in notifications. If, in some case, you wish to bring back the balloons, all you need to do is to return to Registry Editor following the path from above and delete DWORD you created and reset your computer after that.
Disable or Change Sounds
Good old sound that you hear when turning on or turning off your computer is a melody most people are acquainted with even those who don’t use PC’s particularly. However, although these people might find these sounds interesting, for people who hear this at least once during the day and sometimes even more then ones when they turn on/off their PC multiple times, this “sing-along-song” can be quite annoying. In this tutorial we remind you that you can turn off all of those sounds or even change them, whatever suits you best.
1. To change sounds in Windows surroundings right click on a speaker located in the Taskbar and choose Sounds.
2. In the new window you will see list of sounds that Windows uses according your actions or changes in the operating system.
3. If you wish to change any sound, go choose something that you wish to change from the “Program Events” and from the “Sounds” the melody you wish to follow that action.
To disable all of the sounds
1. Choose “No sounds” in “Sound Scheme”.
We remind you that with the change of Windows Theme comes the change of the sounds as well, so in that case it will be necessary for you to go to “Sound Scheme” again and choose “No Sounds”.
You can also combine sound schemes and disable sounds when you turn on or turn off your computer, and leave rest of the sounds intact.
The way to change sounds shown in this method is almost identical in Windows Vista and XP operating systems, so users with those OS can find these tips equally useful.
