Thanks for your reply, yes it makes sense. I tried system restore some time back, it didnt work.I lost the drivers that came with the device, so I let windows 7 install the drivers automatically. I also tried a couple of versions available for download on http://downloads.guru3d.com/Videocards---NVIDIA-GeForce--Vista-%7C-7_c32.htmlDidnt work too =(I also noticed this issue about the same time I realized that the DVI port for my old samsung monitor failed (couldnt even boot in safemode) afterwhich I have been using a vga - dvi cable to link to my graphics card instead. Now I purchased a new monitor and went back to DVI-DVI but the problem persists. Is there any way good to log the boot process to see which is the hardware/drivers giving me the boot freeze? thanks mitz!
btw, I tried unistalling my graphics drivers (GTS 250) drivers on safemode and let it install automatically on the successful boot, or even install the latest graphics drivers from guru3d. Nothing works. Thanks.
