Hi folksim new to all this but i set up a wireless network in my home.i have a laptop running xp pro which accesses the wireless network easily and browses the net.the problem is my son,s desktop which cannot get access to the internet when using wireless.he can get on wireless if i turn off the security on the routers set up page or if he plugs the ethernet cable in, but when i turn the WEP settings back on he cannot get on the net. the router is a netgear DG834Gv3 his desktop is xp pro as well.please can anyone help me with this annoying problem. cheersDecember 10, 2009 at 9:48 am #32212
I have seen this in education queensland a lot. It could be that your wireless card is not compatible with the encryption. When the standards were developed for wireless, they were pretty much open slather, not perfectly defined. Just my point of view.January 21, 2010 at 5:45 am #32213

I do not bother with security on my wireless as it is open slather at my house…If soemone wants to park their car outside my house and use my internet then so be it…and if they are really smart they can have access to my files too… I have backups of everything I need… My neigbours sometimes connect to my internet by mistake or even on purpose when they don't have a connection…My wireless will reach about 500-1000 metres down the street.
