Hey Mitz,I have a question about links. When in my awstats and checking sites linking in, there are all kinds of sites that I've never been to that link to my site. Many are from Russia. Either products or worse. Not sure if this can have a negative impact or not. If so, is there anything I can do about it?Thanks.September 22, 2011 at 1:24 am #33474
Not all data in there is true. For example this can be a black hat technique for many webmasters. You see the link in your stats and go and visit their site to see where the link is coming from...Bang, they have a unique visitor. These sites will drop off as the site gets older but do not worry as they do not affect your rankings etc. Most of the links do not exist. Some sites also do this for getting trackbacks. I would much rather look at Google analytics data to see what Google sees..September 24, 2011 at 10:11 am #33475

Unsolicited external links tend to be the most valuable type of external link from a SEO (search engine optimization) perspective. Since these external links are added to another site without your request, these links demonstrate to the search engines the value of your web site and your content, and improve your web site's ranking in “natural search.”
