Someone rang me the other day and needed help to play a DVD movie on their laptop. It blew me away because I seriously thought that everthing just worked in Vista…But no…they had Windows Vista Home Basic. This version of Windows does not come with the video codecs to play a DVD…I just have no idea why…Windows Vista home premium and Ultimate come equipped with all necessary codecs but Basic home and Business do not. Seriously, why bother. See how to Play a DVD with Windows Media PlayerThe problem is easily fixed, however it is annoying that they have continued on this path. When someone orders a quarter strength, skinny, decaf latte from me I call it a "why bother" and this is what I call Windows Vista Basic Home edition. "Why bother" when you can get Home Premium for a few extra bucks... ;D
