When you have a website it is important to submit your URL and sitemap to all of the top search engines. This usually includes Yahoo, Google, MSN, and Ask.com. How to submit your URL to Google?Go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and sign in with your google account name and password. If you do not have one, register, then add your sitemap to Google. You will be asked to verify that you are the owner of the website by adding code to your site. If you have a blog you can go to http://blogsearch.google.com/ping to add your blog to Google. After adding my sitemap to Google about a year ago, I now get about 1,300 visits per day from Goolge alone..How to add your URL or sitemap to Yahoo?Go to http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ and add your sitemap here. You will have to have a yahoo ID and you might have to verify your site. I used to get hardly any traffic from Yahoo, however after adding my sitemap here I get around 40 to 50 visits a day. Not much compared to Google, however it all adds up in the end. How to submit your sitemap and URL to MSN?Go to http://webmaster.live.com/ and do the same as google and Yahoo. You can also copy this URL [url=http://api.moreover.com/ping?u=http://www.100vista.com/rss.xml%5Dhttp://api.moreover.com/ping?u=http://www.100vista.com/rss.xml%5B/url%5D but replace http://www.100vista.com with your website url and rss.xml with the name of your rss feed. Paste it into your browser and press enter. Do the same for your sitemap at http://api.moreover.com/ping?u=http://100vista.com/sitemap.xmlThis is the message you get when you have added your site. "Thank you for your ping. The moreover database will be updated with the new data from your url - http://www.100vista.com/rss.xml as soon as possible." MSN also gathers information from Moreover so I always do this just to make sure I have it covered. I am not too sure about how many visits I get from this, but you never know... How to submit your sitemap to Ask.com database?Copy this URL and replace http://www.100vista.com with your own website and same with the sitemap name. Paste it into your browser address bar and press enter. http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A//http://www.100vista.com/sitemap.xml I do get traffic from ask.com, however it is very minimal. (2-4 a week)I would be interested to find out if anyone actually gets major traffic from any other search engine besides Google. But I do have to mention that until I submitted my site to Yahoo, the traffic was dismal.. Now at least I do get a little bit.Other links http://blogsearch.google.com/pingValidate your sitemap at these sitesValidome:http://www.validome.org/google/XML-Sitemaps.com:http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.htmlSeptember 19, 2009 at 8:07 am #30397
Another point…If you have a WordPress website you can get a plug in that will make an xml sitemap automatically for you and also submit it for you too… How easy is that???? WordPress has every plug in you can ever dream of…
