Directed here from the black screen of death free report i stumbled on. but was still unable to determine my issue.
So i have a 4 year old HP laptop, i know its about time to replace it but cant because of current circumstances so short of buying any pricy new parts to replace im up for trying anything to get it up and running for a little while longer. im not computer illetirate but i have yet to build my first gaming rig which i want to start soon.
-when it started
So this began sometime between when it automatically went to sleep when i fell asleep watching a movie and when i got back from work. i bring it back and forth in case there is something i need to transfer something to it.
-description of the problem
When i turn it on everything seems to behave normally (the fan turns on, the cd drive makes some noises, the power button and the power symbol turn green.(there is no beeping noise) but the screen remains black. not even a flashing curser. no response from the mouse or the keyboard. i have tried pushing all the F keys
(what stands out to me)the hdd flashes at regular intervals but on the 7th blinks it seems to get interrupted followed by a slightly longer delay. im not sure if this is any indication of the problem. maybe my hard drive is no longer functioning properly. also the cd drives noises seem to be in sync with the intervals of hard drive light. mainly on the 4th blink, i can hear the most notably sound of the cd drive.
-what i have tried
–turning it on and off several times. leaving it for hours and trying again. with and without the charger. with and without the battery
–i have removed all external devices
–i have tried hooking it up to a monitor, to see if my display has burnt out
–i have removed both parts of the ram, switching them, putting each in seperately into each slot. testing between each of these with no change.
–removed the cd drive, and than put it back in
–took out and put back in the hard drive.im still drawing a blank and this is my first black screen so i have very little first hand experienceOctober 1, 2012 at 9:59 pm #33891
Considering we can pinpoint where it happened I think we should concentrate on that. For example, when watching movies some laptops get stuck in limbo with display. You could try pressing f4 and then hit enter. You Key you need to push might be different though…
But there is a problem with that..You have restarted the laptop so now I am thinking it went to sleep and got stuck. See this article about computer wont wake up.October 30, 2012 at 5:13 am #33892
You have stated that you have turned ON and OFF your laptop several times. This a clear indication that it is not hanged. There is some internal problem associated with it.Therefore try to discuss this matter with an expert computer repairer so that he can help you in fixing it up in easy rates.December 19, 2012 at 6:05 am #33893
From my point of view, it seems that there is some problem with your screen. If you have not yet tried reinstalling video drivers, I would recommend you to do so. If the problem still persists, consider taking help of professionals.January 1, 2013 at 7:35 am #33894
