Have you heard of this…A 500gb usb flash drive…Well I have bought two from China and now I am waiting to find out if they are for real. 500gb on a tiny little flash drive…I thought they only went up to 128gb so far…Has anyone got one? If you have one, let me know!!!September 1, 2009 at 11:35 am #32360
You might have been had there Mitz… 256GB is the biggest I have heard of, think it might have been Kingston or Corsair who released it only last month in limited regions of the World, 128GB is the biggest USB flash drive that is sold Worldwide, I can't find a 500GB (Probably should be 512GB?) or the 256GB one that was released last month on the UK sites here http://www.ebuyer.com/search?sort=pricehigh&q=flash%2Bdrive&limit=10&page=1Those 2 128GB ones are the biggest I can find.September 1, 2009 at 8:08 pm #32361
Yes I am a bit worried but I took the risk just in case its true. I have paid around $40 for each one..Anyway I will let you all know if it turns up and is 500gb. I will be keeping on e for myself for sure. 500gb on a flash drive would be soooooooo handy.September 2, 2009 at 1:15 am #32362
An interesting thing about a 500G flash drive is that you could install any recent version of Windows and boot from the drive. You could actually have a computer with no hard drive installed!

Ok guys I have the 500gb flash drives…They show up as 500gb in all properties. I have am putting as many files as I can on them because I just can't believe it still...I even installed a program on it and ran the program from it....BUT.....A big but....When I put an avi movie on there it seems to get corrupted and I can not longer play it in Windows Media player. This file works on my computer fine...(all codecs are cool and all) ..When I press on the avi file on the 500gb drive it goes to open windows media player, which it should, then it says the file is unreadable or maybe corrupted...Everthing else is fine....I have stored all sorts of files on there....This movie thing is annoying me and I will not be happy until it works...Whats the point of having a 500gb flash drive if it can't store movies properly. It wont work with .wmv ....(because I make those computer video tutorials) It says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." How can a .wmv not be compatiable with Windows Media Player??????September 13, 2009 at 2:54 am #32364
I'm sorry, but did you say 500 gig flash drive?I really don't see the point in one, but it is a flash so video files might get a bit shoddy. However, if I needed 500 GB I'd stick to the classic external hard drive.September 14, 2009 at 4:50 am #32365
Ok I have run the usb flash stick through a few programs to see if they are really 500gb…It is still showing as 500gb…But I have also found out that they are formatted in exfat, not fat32, or ntfs….But then when I ran a test on it and it showed 500gb, it also said it was fat16. What the Hell? I am guessing the program has not heard of exfat yet. These things are driving me crazy. I have started a new test now that is especially for USB flash drives. Will get back to you about the results..By the way I tried to format the drive to ntfs but it will not. You can only format it to exfat. It does not work with anything else..September 14, 2009 at 7:55 am #32366
Have you tried it with one of the windows 7 setups? This is copied verbatim from wikipedia regarding exfat. The disadvantages compared to previous FAT versions include:

Yeah I saw that….But haven't got around to trying it out yet…When I first inserted it into my computer it came up with an option to use it for readyboost…But I said no..Then I saw that info and decided that my next step was to try it with Windows seven…I will give it a go… It still says its 500gb and the only problem I have had is with the movies….Its just so annoying…September 16, 2009 at 11:10 pm #32368

Well that's a shock 500GB Flash Drives, I would have just bought the External HDD like Solracnas said. Are they quite big flash drives? Or just an average size? if they are big then it is quite obvious they might have stuck 2 flash chips together otherwise they might just be too expensive for the main Manufacturers we know to sell, the prices being high and all, I reckon 500GB drives sold by manufacturers here would be around £1000 easily since those 128GB ones I linked above are just under £300, Yikes!! 😮September 17, 2009 at 12:13 am #32369
i am not happy with this one though…haven't checked it out again yet…But it is tiny and very cute. I dumped my picture folder on there which was over 1gb in one shot and they all worked fine…Of course there is alot more on there…but the movies won't work….Whats the point of having a 500gb flash drive if you can't store a huge file like a movie. I think this one I got is a fake…Which I gathered before I bought it, however I thought I would take the chance of getting the 500gb.November 4, 2009 at 7:13 pm #32370
http://www.dhgate.com/usb-2-0-brand-500gb-flash-memory-drive-new/p-ff80808122f14c700122f19bb1b90e4a.htmlSelling a "500 GB flash drive"DO NOT BUY THIS ONEnot sure if this is like the one mitz has, but reading through the page i see below"2GB real memory shows 8GB/16GB/32GB/64GB/500GB (optional) in computer"This means that although it may SAY it has 500GB it really only has 2GB of memory, so.... even though i dont know if your flash drive implies the same scam type modification, i would not but this one >_> im still gonna look for it though.November 5, 2009 at 6:00 am #32371
Thats probably what I have…it looks similar, but I have put more than 2 gb on it…but it is really suspect….anyway I will send you one if you like….HAHAHA…November 5, 2009 at 6:15 am #32372
