Could a Feedback Forum, be added to the Index Page, please?Members then can suggest small changes, to make this site, more user friendly to them. 🙂January 5, 2009 at 4:33 am #30773
Thats sounds like a good idea DSTM… I will find a good spot for it and add it in soon….thanks for your ideas!!!January 7, 2009 at 12:48 pm #30774
Hi Guys.I eventually would like to see Stickies, on a number of Forums, with hints relating to that Forum. Also updated Smilies. There are plenty on the Net.Have a sub,we can click onto, for a variety.Downloading good ones, is labour intensive.Smilies often tell the Forum, the manner in which you say something.Often text can be taken the wrong way.I would like to see a strip of bright colour, that blends in, at the top of the Page. All looks good now, but would improve further.IMO.Perhaps where "links" is written.Thanks.January 7, 2009 at 1:07 pm #30775
I am pretty sure Mitz may be interested in changing some of this stuff. Having the forum look good is important of course. However, there are a lot of functional changes that need to be made first, and its all VERY labour intensive. I know Mitz is spending a lot of time on these. One day, if you can get to look at a raw php script, you'll see that even the simplest changes can be very complicated. If Mitz is interested, and if I or Bear can find the time, perhaps we can try to implement some changes on her behalf. The problem then though, is deciding which cosmetic changes would look good to everyone. Everyone has different thoughts on what looks good. The forum is very young, and so far quite successful. This is a good thing of course, but it also takes more time as it grows. You discover that categories need to be redesigned to suit the kinds of input received. Things need to be moved around for functionality reasons, or additional features need to be added. It takes a lot of time to make changes, and in time, with lots of input from users such as yourself, I am sure that changes will be made. 🙂

Thanks dak, for the positive feedback. That's why I said “eventually” at the beginning of my post.No time frame.I am sure, other Members, will give their suggestions, also. At least you are listening to Members.I realize it's a long hard road, and very time consuming.January 7, 2009 at 9:21 pm #30777
DSTM, by stickies, do you mean the posts that stay at the top? Like the other forums have? Because I want to have them but I am just working out what to stick!!!! LOLOLOLJanuary 8, 2009 at 3:14 am #30778
That's right Mitz.Locked at the beginning,so they don't get buried. All in time. 🙂January 8, 2009 at 8:24 am #30779
Wondering what the size limit for Avatars are,as my personal Avatar is being rejected.Must be pixel limit as size is reasonable. Can Admin set the limits higher please. Also what is the area size limit for Signatures? Please. 🙂If this information was printed, where we upload our Avatars, would be a useful guide.Thanks.January 8, 2009 at 8:41 am #30780
The avatar size has now been changed from 65×65 to 100×100. The system should resize avatars to fit these constraints. If it doesn't, then I am sorry, you will have to choose a different avatar. 100×100 is as large as we can reasonably fit on the page, and it won't be enlarged further than that. It may even be reduced slightly again, we'll have to see what happens to the pages as more large avatars are posted. The maximum signature length is 500 characters. This is sufficient, and won't be changed. Hope this helps 🙂

That's great,as a lot of Members Avatars are greater than 65×65.Is there a height limit to the Sig size 500x?January 8, 2009 at 10:04 am #30782
there is no height limit, just 500 characters. You can only use text, bbc code and smileys in a signature though, no images, so height isn't a factor that matters.

I originally set the avatars to 100 X 100 and 45 kb, for both uploaded and hosted. The physical size of an avatar is not the only thing to keep in mind, but the kb size asJanuary 8, 2009 at 1:40 pm #30784
Very interesting, when explained. The amoumt of frames needed, to animate a gif, is what governs the KB size.I didn't know that. All a learning curve, and thanks for the explanation,Bear. 🙂January 8, 2009 at 3:46 pm #30785BearParticipant
That is partially true, the compression plays a bigger part though, here we have my avatar again as a png file note the difference in kb's BearJanuary 8, 2009 at 4:23 pm #30786
I am not sure that how many kb matters to most people. Even a gif image, which is constructed of multiple images, is unlikely to exceed 100kb if it fits the size constraints of 100×100 pixels, and there is no issue with posting an image of 100kb or less on this site that I am aware of.For those members that aren't aware, an avatar is simply an image placed by your name. You can upload your own image to this site and use that, or you can link to an image hosted on another site if you'd prefer. You have the option to do this by clicking on the 'profile' button at the top of the page, and then clicking on 'forum profile information' on the left of the page.Your avatar can be any image file, including animated .gif files, so long as it fits the size constraints of 100x100kb or less. If you use a larger image, it will still work, but will automatically be resized by the system. There are no constraints on how many kb the file is.
