Check out this article on how to convert avi to dvd format….I am using the free any video converter..http://www.tips4pc.com/convert%20video/convert_avi_movie_format_to_mpeg.htmI am interested if anyone has found a program that does this and is also totally free???? Let me know....Or let me know what you think of Any video converter???I am very impressed with it because it not only converts all sorts of different video formats but it also downloads Youtube videos for you and converts them at the same time....AND....It also converts a avi or dvd etc to go on a ipod touch...MP4...its just fantastic!!!!June 25, 2009 at 3:34 pm #32097…spikepitParticipant
Not sure what that Any video converter is like or how fast it converts videos but the one I use is called SUPER, link here – http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.htmlThe website layout is crap so it is hard to download, on the page you go to above go to the bottom and click "Start Downloading SUPER" then on the next page click on "download and use" it's in the paragraph about 5 down, then you have to go to the bottom of that last page to download the Setup File, pretty rubbish way to download it but I think it is more about giving you information about the program before you download it.I've used it for a couple of things like converting downloaded Youtube videos to a size suitable for my Mobile Phone amongst other things. Forgot how long it took to convert files, very little though if I remember correctly although it does depend on what settings you use, you can select from many different containers for the file like DVD, MP4 and FLV being the most common, you can also choose different Video Codecs and Audio Codecs for it to run on including H264 (HD), DivX and MPEG-4 for Video on the MP4 Container and then some standard Audio Codecs. You just drag the file into the little file list at the bottom and it encodes one at a time, you can save various profiles for encoding as well it has some Defaults like FLV to AVI, but you can also create some of your own, it takes some messing about but the results are quite good in the end.The person or people who created it seems to have updated it recently (June 10th) but I'm having trouble installing it, it keeps failing on a certain file that it installs but that seems to be a problem with Firefox and my use of Extensions it suggests you don't use any sort of Download Manager (I do in Firefox), I managed to download and install it correctly by using Chrome, IE should probably work fine as well.Just to add on I'm writing this while messing about installing the program it seems the new updates to the program include being able to mix a Video File and Audio File together although I haven't tried it so now sure how it's meant to work, but to get the other interface for the program click the other Radio Button near the top left of the program interface (2 Radio Buttons together). For downloading Youtube Videos I use this software tool, simply called Youtube Downloader HD, as the name says it downloads the HD Videos as well as the HQ and NQ videos, Link here - http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/Don't know how they compare to the Any Video converter since that merges the 2 features but hopefully that's another choice, the Youtube Downloader is really simple to use but the SUPER Converter software might take a bit more getting used to and tweaking, It took me 3 tries to get the right settings to convert the Youtube Videos to my Phone so it's best to keep a copy of the original incase but I think it just creates a new file so it should be ok to keep just one of the Video Originals but that is because it needs to be quite specific in what settings you pick, as for DVD that should be quite easy to just pick the correct options.Lastly I should mention the more detailed settings you pick the longer the video will take to encode but I think most people would know that anyway so just a reminder.June 25, 2009 at 9:59 pm #32098
I really do recommend checking any video converter out…Not only is it free, but it does do the job of at least three programs…And the other thing is..It is easy to use… This is what I am using it for: (only what I have tried)-- Downloading and converting Youtube from FLV to what ever I like.-- Converting any movie type to MP4 for an Ipod touch or mp4 player.-- Converting avi movie formats back to DVD.-- Converting DVD to avi or anything I like..When your done the files are stored in documents/Any Video Converter/Avi if you made an avi and documents/Any Video Converter/dvd if you made a dvd file...And so on...You can download ANY VIDEO CONVERTER and SUPER at Tips4pc Freeware section.I have found that SUPER does do something that ANY VIDEO CONVERTER does... It extracts audio from a video and leaves you with an Mp3 file...Of course SUPER does alot more and is a very detailed and featured program... I have both on my computer..August 4, 2009 at 8:33 pm #32099
Another thing about Any Video Converter…When people ask you how to convert an avi to dvd or something else…give them this program because it is so easy to work out…Then they will not bother you again…LOL You will have solved their problems because Any Video Converter doesn't have that many settings to adjust but turns out a great end product.January 7, 2010 at 3:00 am #32100commit832Participant

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'm totally gonna check them out soon. My favorite video converter is “KIGO Video Converter” and “Video Pad” from NCH software. They both are awesome. KIGO is video converter that can convert your videos in any kind of format, even mobile phone MP4. Video Pad is actually not a video converter, although it can convert video. But its main job is to edit videos with a bunch of awesome features like cropping, separating video and its sound, adding more videos, effects and many more. But Video Pad is not free. But KIGO is FREE though.
