Once upon a time, I could connect to the internet on my PS3 using an ethernet cable from my laptop (as my only internet connection is a 3g Mobile Broadband Dongle). This was until a Windows Update some how stopped it from working. Ive ticked all the boxes to allow other devices on the network to access the internet, Ive shared all the media. Ive done all the same things as I did the first time and it isn't working. So I went and bought a wireless router to plug into to the laptop because apparently that works easier. Still nothing. The play station can find the computer and find the IP address, but then fails to connect to the network, find the media and connect to the net. I'm on Vista and the Access Status in Network and Sharing Center wont change from Local to Local and Internet for Local Area Connections. So. What can i do? Ive tried various other suggestions listed on blogs and chats including new DNS Addresses, Reconfiguring settings, etc... and nothing works. It so frustrating!June 17, 2009 at 11:22 pm #32088
If you are sure that a particular windows update caused this then you should be able to remove it and see if it works then. See this article to see http://www.tips4pc.com/Computer_tips_and_tricks/see_what_windows_update_history.htm You could post a list of recent updates here for us to see if you like.June 19, 2009 at 2:26 am #32089
The unfortunate thing Im not actually sure if it was a windows update! In my vast amount of web research for similar cases, I only read other people saying it might have been a windows update. Ive looked through the link you suggested and cant find anything that infers looks like a Networking Update.Do you have another tips for a technical lackwit?June 19, 2009 at 2:46 am #32090
Neither Vista or Playstation are things that I know a huge lot about, so I am not going to be much help here, though I'll also do some research. One question I do have is how long ago did the problem occur, and is it possible to go back far enough with a system restore?

Hi Dak! I have tried a system restore and it didnt go back far enough. Im starting to go crazy. Ive followed steps that Ive found on other discussion pages discussing the exact circumstances that I have, they say it works for them and still not for me. I appreciate you researching for me as Im sure you'll know more than I.Thank again.June 19, 2009 at 11:19 pm #32092
I have never connected a Ps3 to a wireless dongle…but I have connected a ds lite and a wii…Surely it must be just a network issue, regardless of what device we are connecting to…The point is that the connection is not working…I have some questions that may or may not help...Have you tried going through a network setup wizard on the laptop after installing the router?Have you checked to see if the ethernet cable you are using is still ok?Does the playstation show up when you go into to View computers and devices on your network?Have you done a setup wizard on the router? Does the router have an internet signal leaving it?Have you tried entering in your computer IP and dns server so it doesn't have to find it everytime?Just a few thoughts???What happened to change things? HmmmJune 20, 2009 at 3:30 pm #32093A friend has told me what I might be doing wrong. The supplier I bought from from an eBay store and they didnt send me and configuration info, just the modem and the power cord. Being a Novice to computing, I thought this normal. I dont have the passcode to activate/connect the router after typing the 192.168.2.1 into the URL Browser. We tried the normal password (admin) and it didnt work and neither did 0000. I have emailed the seller and awaiting the code.Ill let you know. 🙂
