Trying to help my father with his Dell Inspiron 530 running vista. Getting a black screen at start up (never see / get to the welcome screen, windows logo, or user log-on screen, etc..). Everything seems to be running. The blue light is steady on powerbutton, and there are no warning/alert beeps, but we can't see anything on the screen (not even a flashing cursor). I checked the connections and they are all in correct locations and pins are not bent/missing.So I tried restarting PC and wanted to enter safe mode. when pressing just the F8 key, or just the ESC key, or just the F12 key yields no response. Then tried inserted the original system DVD and then the recovery DVD, but PC doesn't even try to run the DVD (no sound of it spinning)
In this scenario, the system is plugged in and you see lights indicating that it’s receiving power, but pressing the power button has no effect. I would usually say that the problem might be related to power management but Dell's always show a flashing light or an amber light when this is a problem.
