So was using my laptop fine a couple of days ago when it started to run extremely slow, it would respond to mouse movements but only after about 30 seconds. I left it like this for about an hour to see if it would sort itself out but no luck. I turned the laptop off and left it for a day and tried to start it up. It shows the Toshiba screen, after that it sometimes gives me the option (very rarely) to start in Safe Mode etc after about 5 minutes. It seems like it eventually loads but just sits at a black screen with a moveable cursor, everything still sounds like it's working normally. Never encounted a problem like this so at a loss as to were to go from here. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L300. Thanks for any help/advice in advance.

When you see a moving cursor, I gather this is you moving the mouse? (not a flashing cursor?) So you have mouse movement with a black screen behind it...? Have you tried pressing CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the task manager? Then go to the processes tab and start new process.Type in explorer.exeAnyway if sounds like Windows has a problem. Did you actually get into safe mode?
