I haven't experienced such problems with OpenOffice personally, though I will admit I don't even have it installed at the moment. Not that there is anything wrong with it, its just that I have Microsoft Office, and for the rare times I use any of the abilities of either suite, its never mattered to me enough to get round to downloading it again. There was a time when I had much more use for office software though and I was using OpenOffice at that time. There is no doubt that OpenOffice is much more versatile. I'll probably get around to installing it again one day!Disabling the Java may help, but the first question I would ask is.. do you actually have the quickstart working? Quickstart loads with windows and leaves a process running which aids OpenOffice to open quickly. If you have been removing stuff from your Windows startup processes, in order to load Windows faster, then is it possible that you have removed the OpenOffice quickstart from startup? That would certainly slow OpenOffice considerably.
