Most computers, especially older ones, can appear to hang in situations like that. It just means the computer is devoting major resources to somewhere else at that time. One of the programs on your start list is taking a long time to load, and the computer is on hold till its finished. If its only a minute or so then perhaps its best not to worry about it too much unless it gets worse. If it really bothers you, then you will need to identify which program is causing the delay. If you watch the taskbar while its apparently hung, you may see icons appear, note which ones appear and when and this may give you a clue as to which program is the culprit. Sometimes if a program opens there can be a short flash screen before it minimizes too, if you see one of these come up immediately after the computer unfreezes then that is likely the one you are looking for. Once you have identified it, unless its a system process and that is unlikely, then you can safely remove it from the start menu and hopefully cure the problem.
