I've had a UPS save my computers. A lightning strike which destroyed 3 fridges, a couple of tvs, a washing machine and an LCD projector, but the surge protection in my UPS meant the lightning did not harm my computers. The UPS had 4 outlets, so I had 2 computers and 2 monitors running from it.I was living in remote Arnhemland at the time, and the UPS features were invaluable even without the surge protection. Our power was erratic and unreliable, and many times the UPS saved me from losing all my work. It also made hardware last considerably longer, as UPS provides a flat, clean power signal from its battery. Normal household electricity is erratic, constantly changing voltage.I dont have one at the moment, but its high on my list of 'things to buy' when fortune starts smiling on my wallet again... my last one was 100 bucks or so but that was a few years ago now.
