I've just been through the same process with Beagle Internet. To their credit, everyone I spoke to on the phone had an Australian accent. To their disadvantage, 9 times out of 10 it was faster to email them and wait 2 days for a reply.I did the same thing, told them I am not a PC dummie and there was no issue with my equipment. I had just moved from TPG because the local exchange wasn't enabled for ADSL2+ for them, but Beagle uses the Telstra system, so they could offer the better speed. My equipment has been just fine in 4 other major cities in Australia, getting lightning fast ADSL2+ downloads, often actually providing the promised maximum line speed of 24,000 kps. There is nothing wrong with my equipment, this is a FACT.After a week of complaints, they put in a test request to Telstra, who told them that the external line was fine and the problem was my hardware. If they were to come out and physically test, and find no problem with the external line, then it would cost me $150 for an invalid callout. After 2 weeks of getting disconnected 200 times daily, and virtually dialup speeds, I gave up and throttled my router back to ADSL speeds. They didn't even suggest this, I am glad I am not a newbie. Of course this fixed (most of) the dropouts, and gave me a little speed back. Now I can download files from Microsoft at about 550kps.. not bad.. not great but acceptable.Telstra, who own most of the lines in Australia, are probably the most reliable, unless you live in a major centre in which case I highly recommmend Iinet. Telstra charge double what other providers do though, and they also include uploads in your download quota, which almost no-one else does.I signed a 6 month contract with Beagle, so I am going to stick it out. If I get lucky, Iinet will in the interim enable my local exchange for ASDL2+ and I will be able to go back to an ISP that cares.... even if they dont install ADSL2+ I will still go back to them, as I suspect even their 8000kps ADSL will be faster, more reliable, and cheaper than anyone else is offering in my little hick town.
