The dvd burner is a Samsung, and its only a few months old. Most times when I put a DVD or CD in, it only takes a few seconds, then the XP message window comes up asking me what to do with the DVD, like play it or copy it etc. Every now and then when I put a disc in, even if its a disc that worked perfectly last time, nothing happens. I go to "my computer" and click on play, and the computer starts looking for the disc, then it seems like it just gets lost for some time. After a couple of minutes, I give up and click the X. Then Windows says "this program is not responding" and asks me if I want to end now. so I say yes. After a few seconds, that window disappears, but so does my entire desktop. I wait for a bit, but nothing happens, so in the end I have to reboot the computer to get the desktop back.I called the people who sold me the DVD burner, and they said it was probably a faulty DVD burner, and they could send it back to Samsung for testing. Since it only cost me $67 fitted, I dont think I want to wait for weeks with no burner at all while they send it back to Japan or Korea or wherever the stupid thing comes from, so I have decided to just put a new one in and grin and bear it.Is there a way to get my desktop back when this does happen until I can afford to have them fit a new burner? It only happens sometimes, and it wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't have to restart the computer every time it does.
