Most smart phones or Android powered devices these days come equipped with a Facebook application implemented directly into the phone’s software for easy social networking on the go. The application proves to be a great way to directly and instantly check in on friends’ Facebook statuses, view the latest pictures and play your favorite time wasting Facebook games.
Luckily, for those stuck on a 14-year cellular contract until they can upgrade their phone, there are still ways to receive Facebook messages to your device. After proper setup, you’ll receive a text message whenever somebody writes on your wall, instant messages you, or tags you in some way. The best thing is that it only takes a few short steps to sync your cell phone and your Facebook account. After that you will be getting Facebook messages to your cell phone.
Hook Your Cell Phone Up With Facebook
The three things you’ll need to start receiving Facebook messages on your cell phone are indeed a cell phone, an Internet connection, and a Facebook account. The first thing you do is log onto your Facebook account and go into your account settings in the upper right hand corner of the page. To the left hand side in your account settings is a mobile phone icon labeled mobile.
Under the ‘mobile’ section you’ll see an area where you can register for Facebook messages and there will be a button labeled ‘add a phone’. In this dialog box you’ll select your country and also input the cell number of the phone you want to receive the messages on.
The next step you’ll need to take to activate Facebook messages on your cell phone is to send a text to Facebook, confirming the phone number actually belongs to you. The text number that Facebook uses is 32665 and you’ll need to send a message containing only the letter F to 32665. If the transfer goes through, you’ll receive a confirmation code text message back in a few minutes. Enter the confirmation code under the mobile settings in your Facebook account and you should have Facebook Mobile successfully activated.
How To Use Facebook From Your Mobile Phone
Now that you’ve successfully gotten your cell phone connected to Facebook, you’ll be able to be notified of actions on your profile. If you want to update a self witty status after a few drinks at the bar, simply send a text message to the 32665 number. You can also receive friend requests to your mobile phone that you can accept automatically by texting back ‘add’ to the request.
You might also want to select which notifications will be sent to your phone so that your device doesn’t blow up 100 times a day with Zynga Bingo requests. On your computer go to your account and select notifications from the left hand side to mark or uncheck boxes that don’t interest you. It may take a week or two to get fully comfortable with Facebook from your mobile phone and you’ll inevitably have statuses that simply say ‘add’ but Facebook from your cell phone is a convenient way to stay connected until 2019 when your cell phone contract lapses.
