You have just received an email with an attachment in Windows Live Email and it says that it is a prohibited file type. The problem is, you really need to open this file and you know that it is safe to open. For your own protection, Windows Live Mail blocks some types of attachments that have a higher risk of containing a virus, especially executable files like a Powerpoint presentation. That is great because we all need to protect our computer from viruses.
When you press on the help link, Windows Live email states that you cannot open the prohibited file type but I did not take no for an answer. It does mention that you can change your settings to allow these file types for any new emails coming in but changing this setting won’t unblock attachments that Mail has already received.
How to Open a Prohibited file Type in Windows Live Email
Warning: It is best to not allow prohibited files types as they can contain viruses. You can however enable this option just to receive or view a file you know is safe.
3. Click the Security tab, and then, under Virus protection, clear the check box next to Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.
