When you are an Ebay Seller and you have hundreds of items listed, there is nothing more annoying than a failed auction. Sometimes people bid and then renege on the deal which actually costs time and money for the Ebay seller.
Here are some tips to help avoid failed action listings:
- Be totally honest with your listing. If something is damaged or has a scratch, mention it and also show a picture. Your idea of a small scratch and someone else’s idea may be completely different. In an Ebay listing, as the person is not able to see and touch the item, you will need to help them out with more pictures.
- When describing your item the Ebay Auction listing must be detailed. Don’t just put what it is. You need to list what condition it is, how much is it worth, and loads more things.
- Always have your terms of sale clear. When does the winning buyer have to pay, what types of payments are excepted, and what happens if they want a refund.
- Postage is always a big problem that can be avoided. Clearly state how much your postage price is and explain what the item will be packed in. I use to get people complaining saying it could have been packed better…Again their ideas were different to mine. Also make it clear when it will be posted and how long it will take to get there. Including insurance in the postage charge is a must. This way you know the item is going to be delivered.
- Always respond to the buyer promptly during and after the sale. This will let them know that you are on the ball and they will pay for their item quicker.
- Send an email when they win the item, when you post the item, and another to remind them to leave feedback. Customers like to be informed and this does not leave them any chance to start complaining about anything like slow postage.
- Accept as many forms of payment as you can. This not only increases your sales, but it improves the buyer paying rate.
I had to learn these tips one Ebay sale at a time. Every so often another customer would come up with another tip for me to add to my list. For example I put a car on Auction at Ebay and the guy who won it said his son was playing on the computer and bid on my car. So I lost a great sale. And the second buyer in line didn’t take advantage of the second chance offer so I was forced to re-list the car. Unfortunately I ended up getting $6,000 less the next time around. Now if I am selling an expensive item the bidder must confirm that they wish to bid prior to bidding. This way I know the bids are genuine.
