Since the invention of spell check and voice recognition, my spelling skills are so bad I often have to use Google search for a dictionary. My spelling is so bad that Microsoft word has no suggestions for me to spell some words correctly. When this happens my next stop is to visit Google search to find the correct spelling.I have been saved many a time by Google search as it always seems to come up with the right word.
I am merely an internet entrepreneur and have lost all my spelling skills as most things I do are achieved with the help of some fancy software program. When typing in WordPress I often have the same problem, it can’t suggest correct words for me.
Here are some examples of words that WordPress or Microsoft word had no suggestions for.
These are perfect examples of why I use Google search for a dictionary.
I really thought WordPress would know how to spell entrepreneur?
If I search for the word with the incorrect spelling Google search finds the right word for me.
Other ways to use Google Search for a dictionary:
When you go the Google searh you can find the meaning of anyhting you like by typing:
define:entrepreneur
See the screen shot below. Now I have a page full of definitions for the word entrepreneur.
Using Google search for a dictionary is a handy tool when you are stuck for the right spelling.
Hahaha I know exactly how you feel. This technology is making us dumber. office word just corrects my spelling without even telling me. If I write teh it will just corrects it to the. So now I don’t even know I’m making mistakes.
I use google to find the correct spelling all the time. I thought it’s very normal to do this, but none of my housemates do it. And generally they need it more than me (even the English guy). But having google to check your spelling can be a bad thing as well.
Long ago when I went to uni, the first time I had an English test I arrived at the classroom right on time, with my heavy dictionary. I spend most of the time checking my spelling, to find out that I was right from the beginning. And I’ve never been so insecure about my spelling.
So the second time I had an English test I arrived 15minutes late (any later and I would not have been allowed to go in) without my dictionary. And I finished the test before anyone else, and only had two mistakes (of which one was later corrected by the teacher as I proved it was actually right).
So just having the option to check your spelling all the time may make you insecure and cost you more time then when you just trust in your faculties because you have no other options. 🙂
