One of the most effective methods for driving website presence is guest blogging. Guest posts give the blogger a chance to expose him or herself to an already established audience, and if properly implemented with blogs that are related to the content of your own website, it can prove highly effective in turning on audiences that are already clued in to your content.
There are many methods to finding similar websites that you can guest blog on. Here are five methods that work.
Use similar site finders
There are many websites on the Internet that are dedicated to finding websites that are similar to others. One such website, one of the most popular actually, is SimilarSites.com, but there are many more. These sites act as search engines, allowing you to put in the website that you want to find others like. The similar site Finder will then bring up a list of websites that are similar to the one that you put in. This way you can enter few blogs in your targeted niche and find many more similar ones.
Piggyback off your competitors
Check the backlinks of your strongest competitors. Leaders in your industry are probably aware how powerful Guest blogging is and they probably have contacts with other blogs. You can easily find out who those blogs are by simply checking your competitors backlinks with tools like Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO. You can then follow these links and visit the websites that your competitors have created relationships with and try to create a relationship of your own with those blogers. Many webmasters do not care who guest blogs on their website as long as they have great content. Therefore, you should not be afraid of stepping on anyone’s toes – the blogers will certainly let you know if he or she cannot accommodate you with your request.
Check the blogroll of industry leaders
One simple way to find sites to guest blog on is simply to check the blogroll or links section of the most established blogs within your industry. Most professional blogs will have a page or section that is dedicated to valuable links, and if the blog is serious, then they will have other blogs that are definitely worth your time to go visit.
You can sometimes have better luck convincing the webmasters of those pages that you are a blogger that should be paid attention to by saying exactly how you found the webpage. Be careful about naming affiliations that you do not have, however – just the fact that websites have linked to each other probably means that they have also made a personal connection as well. You may be asked about, so do not become more familiar then you are too quickly.
Ask on industry message boards
One of the best places to find other websites to guest blog is on message boards and forums that are dedicated to the industry that you are in. Make it a point to make your presence known in the forum and then simply ask the question – if there are blogs that will accept your guest posts?
Search engines
If you have already used all of these methods above, there is always the tried and true method of simply going to a search engine and typing in keywords for what you are looking for. You can use generally queries like keyword + blog or you can use some advanced Google operators to create queries like these:
keyword +
- “Guest Post”
- ”Submit a Guest Post”
- “Submit Article”
- “Add Guest Post”
- “Guest Bloggers Wanted”
- “Guest Posts Roundup”
- “Write for Us”
- “Submit Guest Post”
- “Submit a Guest Article”
- “Guest Bloggers Wanted”
- “Become a Contributor”
- “Submit Blog Post”
- “Suggest a Guest Post”
- “Contribute to our Site”
- ”Bloggers Wanted”
- “Become an Author”
- “Blogs that Accept Guest Blogging”
- ”Guest Post Guidelines”
- ”Submit a Guest Post”
- ”Suggest a Post”
- ”Submit a Guest Post”
The real example of a such query for weight loss niche would be: weight loss ”Submit a Guest Post”
These queries will narrow down the search and provide much better results with many blogs that offer guest blogging in your niche. Blogs are highly rated websites these days, so you will probably not have to cycle through many results to find a blog that will accept your guest blogging offer. You can also cross reference these results with Alexa, Quancast and Compete.com results to make sure that you are visiting the websites that have the most web traffic in your industry.
Great tips. Guest blogging is a very good way to make new friends and to promote a new blog. It is beneficial for the guest blogger as well as to the blog. Thanks.
Hi Mitz,
I believe that guest blogging is important to enhance the value of a blog. I think only wordpress has this facility and blogger is yet to update it. I will also join myblogguest.com to make use of this prospect.
Regards
Jaquelin
Google will become your best friend after you have exhausted blogs you know and the blogs that those blogs know. You can easily type in your content topic, such as “Linux” in connection with “guest blog.” Your search query will look something like this: “Linnux AND guest blog.” By typing this in, Google will provide you with a list of other people who have written a guest blog about Linnux. You can see what sites they wrote for and, knowing that those sites accept guest bloggers, attempt to get your own writing posted on those sites.
Guest blogging is a good idea, if you are willing to get a foothold in blogging. With the help of guest posts, one can be established as a full time blogger.
Similarsites.com – is great. Thanks for revealing that to me. I also wanted to get your opinion about guest blogging platforms, such as blogsynergy.com
I’ve been thinking about trying my hand at guest blogging, the list of Google operators you have listed will help me to search out many possibilities. Using similar site finders is something I didn’t know about, so thanks for mentioning that too.
I’ll add to look at the traffic data of a website. I wouldn’t write a unique guest post for a blog that receives little traffic. I want both the backlink and traffic for publishing a unique article on another website. Generally, the site must receive at least 5,000 daily unique visitors unless they’re willing to publish an article already published and indexed on my website.
How do you look at the traffic data?
Hey Mitz,
Some good suggestions on how to find guest blogging gigs there. The power of guest blogging is being more and more widely recognised these days.
It might be the niche that I’m in, but I tend to get unsolicited requests to guest blog and queries about whether or not I accept guest posts (I do) in equal number. As I say, it’s a sign, in my opinion, that the mutual benefits of guest blogging are becoming widely known.
I’m not that much into guest blogging, but when i do it i like to scrape people’s blogroll, it’s the easiest method to get to some quality blogs fast. Well it’s not as easy as it sounds, but it’s still an easy method compared to the alternatives.
Hi Author, This is a very expensive article, you are indeed a great genius, more grease to your fingers, I ll like to request for permission to submit something great too if am permitted.
Thanks
Best Regards Always.

Hi Mitz,
Good tips. I usually go the search engines rout. However, there is a fairly new sites that I think you knwo too, Myblogguest.com. Its great way to find blogs to guest post and also to find interested bloggers who may want to guest post on your blog. Thanks.
I guess I use the search engines the most too… but I seem to have enough blogs to guest post on now…I do use Myblogguest too for a few sites I have.. There is no way I can keep up with all the content I need without that site!!
The last method is the most used and most common. I always use Google to find whatever I’m looking for, it’s the easiest and fastest way to find anything. In matter of seconds, you have what you’re searching for. Guest blogging is very useful for “blog-awareness” and backlink + popularity. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Diana
I agree guest blogging is great for link building and building relationships.
Thanks for this. It’s very useful to me because I’m in the process of building links at the moment. I especially liked, ‘Piggy back off your competitors’. It’s funny, but I’m sure it works!
Hi Anne
You are very good at writing so you should be able to do well.. 🙂
