There’s nothing worse than seeing a 45-year old guy at the gym who has obviously defied the logics of aging. He’s got six-pack abs, isn’t busting a sweat, is doubling your bench press and all the girls are ogling him and ignoring you…even worse you later find out he’s actually 70! While there are some freaks of nature out there that obviously made some sort of Faustian pact, the truth is that most of us start our downhill slide late in our 20’s. Likewise, as you use your computer it gets slower over time as well, just in using it in your everyday activities.
How Do Computers Get Slower Over Time?
When you add and delete programs, download files, and save documents, changes are made to your registry. One of the main causes of a computer getting slower over time is corruption within that registry. Also, as you browse the Internet over the years there’s a likely chance that you’ll be infected with some sort of virus or Malware program that also causes the computer to run slower. Also just like you wish that guy who leaves the gym after busting a sweat would shower before sitting in the cubicle next to you, your computer needs a good cleaning every now and then too because dirt and grime can cause your computer to work harder, run hotter, and thus operate slower. Last, it might not be your computer running slower at all as a bogged down Internet connection can make a computer run annoyingly slow.
How To Speed Up The Computer?
While cranking up the treadmill to impress the hot babe next to you is never a good idea, if you speed up your computer it will lower your stress and increase your productivity.
Clear The Registry – the corrupted registry issues can easily be remedied by downloading a registry cleaner. These programs also clean up Internet cookies and temporary files that eat up memory on your hard drive.
Run An Antivirus – The spy ware and malware you’ve collected over the years can be extricated with a good spy ware blaster. You can then prevent future attacks by updating your antivirus software
Compressed Air – There’s nothing like a blast of fresh air after a sweltering gym session and your computer can benefit from spraying the inside as well. Blow out the dust and particles that have settled in your motherboard every couple weeks to prolong life and increase speed.
Defragment the C:Drive – Instead of having free weights scattered all across the gym, the place looks and feels better when they’re stacked in order. Files on your computer get spread out over time and defragmenting the drive tightens everything up.
Limit The Startup – Every time you install a new program, it arrogantly believes you want it to start every time you run the computer. A computer will get slower over time if you’ve got multiple operations running at once. Start>Run>msconfig.exe and go to the startup tab to unselect non-essential programs. Be careful as you do this and only disable the programs you know.
Install a program to do it all for you! Speed up your computer!
A software program will not upgrade your memory but it will clean out all the junk files, detect Malware, delete unused registry keys, Automatic Driver updates, and more. At the moment I am using PC Matic to maintain everything for me. This software is amazing and has won a number of top awards. You can get a free scan for your computer to see how it works before you buy.
Using these tactics will buy you some more time but just like the old guy popping testosterone pills every day, eventually time will catch up to him and your computer. The last option to speed up your computer is to upgrade. Current programs are being developed in accordance with the newest operating systems and if you can get 3-5 years out of your current computer, consider it served with honor and duty. People have gotten extended shelf life by reinstalling their operating systems every couple years but the increases in RAM and improved processors in newer machines make an upgrade a necessary evil every couple years…although a slow computer is so frustrating that you need to hit the gym to relieve stress and thus maintain pace with guys 40 years your elder so maybe it’s win-win?
