Getting Screenshots using Ms Paint

If you need to get a screen shot, and you do not have a screen capture program, try this:

  • Hit the Print Screen key. This copies a bitmap of the full screen into the Windows clipboard. Start up a graphics editor and paste it in.  I just go to the windows paint program and press on paste…Then I save it as a .jpg so I can edit it in my favourite picture editor. (easier to use than the paint program.)
  • Alt + Print Screen will capture only the active window. (The actual window you have clicked on)

Notes:

  • To get better quality screenshots in Windows XP, save your screenshot in .bmp format and not .jpg . Then edit and convert it in another program. Windows Paint program does a terrible job of converting screenshots from a .bmp to anything else.
  • In Windows Vista, the Paint program already saves the images in .jpg so you do not have to worry.

I still use that method to get my screenshots.
Why bother using a screencapture program if you just need a screenshot. There is a button on your keyboard for that already :P
