Change your user password without knowing the password

Here’s a little trick to change a user password on a computer. However to do this you must be logged in as an Administrator.

For example I am an administrator on my computer which allows me to change anyone else’s password, including mine, even without knowing the password in the first place. Sometimes  I like to change my children’s passwords when I have banned them from using the computer.. I always make an administrator account on their computers and make sure I know what is going on at all times. You cannot always rely on parental monitoring software.Reset your Windows password Instantly!

1.  Go to the Start menu and choose Run….
2.  Type cmd /k net user. This will list the users on your computer.

If you have Windows Vista or Windows Seven you can type this into the search bar at the bottom of the start menu.

The cmd Window will appear. See the screenshot below.

3.  Then type net user mitz * This will let you type a new password in. Next time the user logs in, that will be the password. Mitz is the username.

4.  Replace it with the username of the account you want to change. My account it Mitz. If the username contains spaces like mitz ritz you must put the name like this net user “mitz ritz” *

Please note: You might have to be signed in as an administrator to do this. If not you might have to open run dialogue box and run as administrator.

I was not aware of this command.
This might be convenient as I always forget my passwords if I don’t have to type them every time I log in.
