It sounds like you are missing your driver as the icon is not there.

Go to the start menu, then control panel, system, then the hardware tab, then device manager. (instructions may vary for diff Windows versions)

See if your network adapter has a yellow mark next to it. 

If it does you need to update the driver. Let me know if you need further instructions.</description>
