Type abbreviations and use autocorrect to finish words for you

If you write all the time like me you will love this little trick. Well its not a trick, I am just using autocorrect in Microsoft Word to my advantage. I am going to show you how to make Word translate your text abbreviations you use into finished words. Yes, Word is going to finish or complete the words that I am going to write. Why would I want to write a word like abbreviations when I can simply put abb and then press the space bar. The finished word will appear for me.

 

How do you add text abbreviations to autocorrect in word 2007?

  1. Open Microsoft Word 2007. Press on the Office symbol in the left top corner.
  2. Go to the bottom and press on the Word Options button. See the screenshot below.

  1. Word options will appear. Choose Proofing from the left menu.
  2. Now press on the AutoCorrect Options button as in the screenshot below.

  1. The autocorrect options will appear. Go down to where it says replace.
  2. Under that type in the abbreviation you want to use when you are typing in Word. I have written yt in this area.
  3. Now move to the right side and enter the word that will appear when the abbreviation is typed. I have entered Youtube.
  4. Therefore when I type yt and then press the space bar the word Youtube will appear.
  5. Now press the add button.
  6. Keep entering more abbreviations and words to match. Press add after each one.
  7. Press ok when you are finished.

Examples of words I use shortcut abbreviations for when I am writing in Word 2007:

bec = because

th = therefore

som = sometimes

abb = abbreviation

tips4 = http://www.tips4pc.com

Adding words to autocorrect in Word 2007 is a valuable tool when you are constantly writing the same words all the time. Once you get used to the abbreviations you create, writing letters, story's, or articles becomes a breeze.
