Windows Seven Tips – Setup Parental Controls

Windows seven has made it even easier to keep track of what your children do on the computer when you are not watching them by enhancing the parental controls feature. It is so easy to setup that a two year child could do it. (Well some could)

Setting up parental controls is very important now days as there is so many things that we have to protect our children from. The Internet has opened up a whole new world. Websites like Facebook have brought with them a different type of danger and setting up parent or controls will ensure that you have control of the situation.

How to set up parental controls

To set up parental controls on Windows 7 or Windows Vista, it is best that you are signed into your computer as an administrator. This way you can set up parental controls for all normal user accounts. it is not recommended that you let your children have an admin account as it will give them access to settings and probably make your parental controls obsolete.

How to set up parental controls

  1. Click on the start button in the left hand corner of your desktop.parental controls
  2. When the menu appears choose Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on the user accounts icon.
  4. In the left panel you will see a link saying set up parental controls. Click on this.

In this video below I will show you how easy it is to block your child from playing certain games or programs and limit the times the computer can be accessed. The only thing you must be careful of is if your child is a genius and can hack into the admin account to change the settings.

Parental controls available in Windows

In most versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 (excluding business versions), there are basic parental controls that allow an administrator to set another users browsing capability. This is not limited to just Internet browsing, as it lets you put restrictive time limits on the use of the computer, lets you choose which games and applications will run, and allows you to block both programs and websites from the computer.

If you do not think that the standard parental controls are enough then you can go to the Windows live website and download Windows live family safety 2011. This enhances the basic parent or controls and allows you to get detailed browsing reports and extra free features all for free.

Are you using Windows parental controls, and if so, are you happy with them?
