Which Website Hosting Should I Choose for my First Website?

Five years ago I decided that I wanted to build a website as a hobby. I never thought that I would be getting rid of all my real life businesses that support my family in exchange for a the  “making money online” idea.  I didn’t really think that you could even make money with websites.

When it came to choosing website hosting for my first website, I had no idea which plan would suit me. Usually people go for the free website hosting, however I did not see this as a path to a decent website. My first website was a mess and I continually wasted time on making it look nice, when I should have been filling it with content. My first choice of website hosting turned out to be a mistake, and maybe I had a few more after that.

Now that I have ten or more websites and have tried at least 5 different website hosting companies, I have come to a clear conclusion. I now use Hostgator in conjunction with WordPress and this is for a few simple reasons.

Hostgator website hosting has been the number one website hosting company for the last year and half. I still have other websites hosted on different website hosting companies, however Hostgator has proved to be the best for me.

Why do I choose Hostgator for my website hosting?

  1. Hostgator website hosting is cheap and always gives me a discount on big purchases.
  2. You can make unlimited websites on the one hosting account and therefore only have to purchase a hosting account once.
  3. You can upload a website in a few minutes because it is equipped to be a WordPress website host.
  4. You can use the cpanel with fantastico to upload a website template.
  5. Hostgator supports WordPress which is the easier content management system on earth.
  6. Hostgator automatically backs up your data.
  7. The list goes on…

Some people have problems with certain website hosting, however a lot of the problems come down to the user making mistakes with their own website. This is why I recommend Hostgator in conjunction with WordPress. Hostgator has a control panel (cpanel) where you can go to and instantly install a WordPress website to your hosting account and have it running within 5 minutes.

I’ve done this and am very pleased with it. It’s early days and I still have so much to learn. I haven’t made any money yet, so I can’t comment about the financial side of things, but the site runs very well and there are lots of features to play around with.

One other point you could add is; Hostgator has a really great 24-hour support system. They can be extremely helpful to people not familiar with wp formats.

I like the ‘subscribe in a reader’ box you have on this site. Even though I’ve put it on 4 of my blogger blogs, I’m so far, unable to put it on my wordpress one. Do you have any tutorials on this blog about putting the button up? I’ve searched, but no luck so far. I do have a box on my site, but would like a link like yours, where people can easily click on it and choose their reader, or subscribe by email. Thanks
