I will tell you a quick story about how I started to format my own computer.
I had bought a new computer from a major department store, and at this stage I didn't know much about computers at all. Free Computer tip sites didn't exists so when I started to play around with settings and programs on my computer it would crash. The first few times I got away with getting a free computer format, saying that they had sold me a dodgy computer. However after the third time of having to get my computer reformatted, sadly, they started to charge me. Well I could not afford all this money and I couldn't stop myself from meddling with my computer so I formatted myself. The first time was a nightmare and it probably took me a week to work it out. There was no-one to tell me how to do it because no-one knew. The IT professional's were not going to help because that was their bread and butter (how they made money). Luckily while having my computer formatted by the IT guy I had been watching everything he did, and asking every question that I could think of. He must have hated me! Now days it is easier to format a computer so there is no need to stress. But the moral of the storey is to watch your IT fix it guy like a hawk because you might save yourself a few dollars in the future.

One last quick tip
How to logon as an administrator When you have forgotten your password and you are at the windows XP login screen you can press CTRL ALT DEL at the same time to get a password dialog box up. Now you can type in "administrator" as the user and leave the password blank and then login. This only works if you haven't changed the name and password of the main administrator account. It should be untouched and is on the majority of machines. When you first get your computer you will be logged in as the main administrator. Therefore you should immediately create a user name and password and then restart the computer. The administrator account will be hidden and your user account will show up.
