Hi guys

This past month has been absolutely crazy for Tips4pc as the traffic to the website more than doubled suddenly. I really could not believe my eyes when I saw the stats, and I still can not. I am so excited about the success that I have been madly revamping and adding new pages. One that you should see is the Video Tutorials page. I have listed all of the articles on the website that include a video tutorial. These videos are great for people that do not like reading or simply don't have the time to do it.

Newsletter inside storey: Here is the truth about how I learn about computers..!!!

You are going to think that I am crazy when you here this one. This is a very simple way to learn how to fix computers and get some hands on experience. Here's the big secrete.."If you don't have a problem with your computer, then create one so you can fix it!"

This is the extreme that I have to go to get a decent and interesting problem to work on. Unfortunately the computer problems that my customers bring to me seem to be the same old common errors.

But please do not try this method at home, because even I have sent good working computers to the graveyard early. Friends often ask me why I actually have to experience the problems first hand? They are seriously puzzled until I explain my reasons.

In the early days of building a website I did some of my research on the internet for my articles. However one day I actually had a problem with my computer and thought, hey I have an article on my website about this. So I followed the instructions in the article and it didn't work! I could not believe it! That webpage was deleted immediately and from then on my research was done the hard way. This is why I have to create a computer problem in order to fix it.

Newsletter computer tips

Only perform fixes on your computer that are within your ability. If you are not familiar with something it is always best to get an experienced friend to help or pay an IT guy. If you proceed with fixing your computer regardless, be willing to loose something. If you fix the computer we can celebrate, however if you ruin it, be prepared for the worst!

Newsletter special: Phishing (pronounced fishing) email tips

A Phishing email is an email sent to you with the sole intention of stealing or hijacking your identity. They appear to be from a legitimate business and often try to trick you into giving them even a glimpse of personal information.

  • Don't open emails without scanning them with a current antivirus program

  • Don't click on links in emails. Always type the address into the url bar in internet Explorer.

  • Always be suspicious of all emails that involve wanting anything. Even if they only want you to reply to the message. Think about it.

  • Contact the company involved to see if the email is legitimate.

Here are some common messages you may receive:

  • My grandmother has died and left me an inheritance, can I put the money into your account?

  • You have won lotto in an unknown country, which account do you want your money deposited to?

  • Your paypal account information needs updating, click here to enter the site...

  • We think your credit card has been stolen and the thieves have been caught shopping in France, please enter your credit card information to see if the cards match!

  • Hi friend, can I deposit large amounts of cash into your bank account?

Of course there are the more serious phishing emails that really grab you hook, line, and sinker. The simple answer is to just be suspicious of every email.

How to erase your website history from the address bar in IE7

  1. Open Internet Explorer 7

  2. Go to the menu at the top and choose Tools

  3. Choose Internet Options from the menu

  4. Click on the General Tab

  5. Under the heading Browsing History click the delete button

  6. A menu with choices will appear

  7. Choose to delete history

One last newsletter  tip

System Restore

When your computer is running at its optimum level, I highly recommend that you set a system restore point. This means that if you have a problem you will be able to restore your computer back to that date when it was all working perfectly.

System restore is the ultimate protection against complete disasters that can occur when you have accidentally tampered with files and settings. It will not restore deleted or missing files, but it will restore all windows files so your computer runs smoothly again.

One good thing is that if you have created files on your computer and then suddenly decide to restore to even a month ago or more, the files will still be there. However recently installed programs will not be restored and you will have to re-install them.

To get to System Restore: Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
