Here is a great tip that I still use because it is so easy! When you have a Word document and you want to share it with others, I really hate the fact that they might alter it in some way. Therefore I like to convert my word documents into a professional looking PDF document.
This may sound like it is a difficult thing to do but it’s not. If you have paid for Adobe Acrobat reader it will convert the word documents to PDF, however if you have the free version like I do, it won’t.
Once you have your word document ready you simply attach it to an email and send it to pdf@koolwire.com and they will send your document back within minutes in a PDF format… Isn’t that great!
I have even sent entire e-books to make into PDF’s and it was still sent back within minutes! You can send Word (doc, docx), Powerpoint (ppt, pptx), Excel (xls, xlsx), Visio (vsd), MS Project (mpp), Jpeg, GIF, TIF, RTF, and txt. All can be converted to PDF for you.
Oh yeah.. you can also send a WAV file (a large music file) to have it converted to mp3 by sending the file to mp3@koolwire.com
And one last thing. These guys never send you an email other than the one confirming the job is completed!

What to do with an out of date Antivirus program that doesn’t stop nagging
I have to mention this problem because every time someone buys a computer or laptop from a retail chain store it is loaded with trial software programs. These programs can only be used until the trial period expires and after that they basically nag you to death about upgrading, updating, or buying them. I cannot tell you how annoying it is to me when someone brings me their computer to fix and it also has these nagging trial programs that can be easily killed off.
If you do not plan to buy or update the trial program, simply go to add and remove programs in the control panel to remove the culprit. Once you have removed the program entirely and then restarted the computer, the nagging should be over.
However if you are un-installing an antivirus program you will need to replace it with another one. There are a few free antivirus programs on our Download Software page. I actually use AVG antivirus and it does a good job. It really depends on where you go and what you do on the internet as to how much protection you need.
My personal opinion about Windows vista
You may have heard the rumor that everyone hates Windows Vista, or you may even be the one cursing it personally, but don’t give up yet. When Windows XP first came out I remember trying it on one of my computers but with no joy, as the computer was not up to its real requirements. Now Windows Vista has been released with the same error. I believe the system requirements were under estimated. The recommended 512MB of ram to run Windows Vista is severely skimping on resources. And because they sold so many new computers with Windows Vista installed and only 512MB of ram they are obviously having major problems.
I have 3GB in my laptop which runs Windows Vista quite comfortably. Infact I am almost convinced to get a copy of it for my desktop as well. Windows Vista is great when you get to know it, learn where everything is, and shut off all the unnecessary applications that run.
I know not everyone has 3GB or ram so I would not go below 1.5GB if you can. Also having a video card installed helps save on computer resources.
When buying a new computer
· Definitely don’t let those eager computer sales people tell you that you only need 512mb to run Windows Vista. Tell them you will buy the computer if it has 2gb of ram at least! · Make sure you are not getting hundreds of trial version software installed on your computer. It makes your computer slow!!!!! · Ask the salesperson what full version software comes with your package? · Ask what the one year warranty covers? · Make sure you shop around. There is always a better deal out there. Just because it is a bargain, does not mean it is good quality and will last the test of time. · Do not buy a computer that is just a Celeron 3.0 GHZ only or an Intel and so on…Its all dual core all the way now..
Important parts of the computer you should know before buying: 1. Hard drive: The hard drive disk that holds all of your data and files.. This is where your Windows operating system and programs will be installed. Now days the new computers have at least a 100 gigabyte hard drive. 2. Ram or memory: This lets your computer store files temporarily while using them. When you close programs the files are put back onto the hard drive. If you do not have enough memory your computer can be slow. Now days you should be getting at least 1 gigabyte of ram, or 2, 3, or even 4. 3. Processor or CPU: This is the central processing unit. This will ultimately determine how fast your computer can process your commands. You can get dual core motherboards which can accommodate two cpu’s at the same time. Obviously quad core is even better. Do not buy a computer that is just a Celeron 3.0 GHZ only or an intel and so on…Its all dula core all the way now.. 4. Intel, Celeron, AMD: These are all brand names for processors. Intel is the most popular and solid performer. However the others have picked up their game and now they are all pretty good. I am a die hard Intel fan because they last for years.
A plug for DELL computers
If you are shopping around for a laptop here’s a quick tip. Check out the dell website as their prices are very good and the quality of the laptops is fantastic.
I recently bought the lowest price $699 laptop with a few upgrades and the $1099. They are both beyond my expectations. Infact I am thinking about getting rid of the desktop computer because the $1099 laptop seems to handle anything I throw at it.
One last newsletter tip
