Hi guys

How are you all?

I hope everyone had a great xmas and a happy new year!!! I am actually glad it is over because I had too much of the festive season (too much yummy food), and I am also glad to see the children back at school. Although there was no newsletter for the month of January, I have been very busy with the websites.

On tip4pc.com there is now a new Freeware section that will be filled with freeware programs that have no spyware or nagging messages. This will save you time and money. You will not have to search the internet for a great free program.

Most of these program developers rely on donations to support their research so if you find a good program go the homepage and press on the donate button...Even one dollar can help them out. This is entirely up to you as the programs are free either way.

I have been receiving thank you emails saying how helpful this newsletter is. Thank you to everyone and I am sorry I cannot reply to all these emails individually. I really appreciate everyone visiting my websites and joining my forum, that is enough thanks for me.

What are files and folders? Everything you need to know.

Files and folders are an important when it comes to using a computer because the computers entire existence is made up of files which are stored in folders. A group of files together form a software program which runs on your computer. These program files are stored in a folder called program files which will have sub folders or directories with the individual program contained in them.

You can also create your own files by typing a document and saving it, or downloading photos to your computer. All files and folders can be copied, saved, pasted or even moved to another location. See more on Creating, saving, copying, pasting, and moving files or folders on your computer.

More favorite shortcut keys (the + sign means and - not to be pressed in these sequences)

Microsoft word shortcut to insert a hyperlink

When you are using Microsoft word, if you want to make a word a hyperlink to a website, simply select the word and press CTRL + K and an insert hyperlink window will appear. Now you just type in where you want your hyperlink to point to. For example you can type Http://www.tips4pc.com and the link will point to that website.

Get to the desktop whenever you like

Regardless of what program you are using, you can press the WIN KEY + D to minimize everything and show the desktop.

Scroll through Open applications on Windows XP and Vista

Press The tab key + ALT and you can scroll through anything that is open and where ever you stop, that is what will open.

What happens if you do not have a WIN KEY on your keyboard?

You can try pressing Ctrl + Esc which will equal the WIN KEY. So for example if you wanted to Press WIN KEY + E to open explorer then you would need to press Ctrl + Esc + E if you had no WIN  KEY. This only works for some keyboards that have no WIN KEY. If you have a WIN KEY then it will not work.

Add items to your sendto menu in Windows XP or Vista

When you right click on things like desktop icons, files or folder on your computer a menu appears with a send to link in it. So if you right click on a photo file and choose sendto from the menu, you will have the choice of where to send the file. The most common places to send a file when using the sendto option is to my documents or the cd drive. In the screenshot below it show what is in my send to folder.

sendto folder

If I right click on a folder it will show these exact same options in the sendto menu as shown in the next screenshot.

sendto options

How to find the sendto folder?

In Windows Xp

  1. Go to the start menu and choose run
  2. Then type sendto and press ok

In Windows Vista

  1. Go to the start menu
  2. In the search bar type shell:sendto

You must drag and drop or create shortcuts in the sendto folder. It will not work if you post the actual program in there.
